President's Letter |
Around 1918 Hallett Construction Company was established in
Crosby, Minnesota as a concrete paving and washed aggregate company. Over
the years Hallet
Construction expanded its operations into Iowa, North Dakota, Virgina,
South Carolina, Colorado, and New Mexico. The company was involved in many
areas including concrete paving, asphalt paving, concrete pipe and aggregates.
During this time, Hallett
Construction was a leader in the industry, completing many large highway
and airport projects as well as becoming a major force in the aggregate industry.
In 1982, Hallett Construction Company sold its asphalt and concrete paving divisions so that they could concentrate on building their aggregate business.
In 1986 Hallett Construction was sold to James Rasmussen and became part of the Rasmussen Group of Companies. The decision was made soon after to concentrate its aggregate business in Iowa and in Houston, Texas. |
Three divisions, Central Iowa, Western Iowa, and Texas were established. And since Hallett was no longer involved in the construction business, staying strictly in the aggregate business, the name of the company was changed to Hallett
Materials.
In 2001, Oldcastle Materials, a division of CRH, which is located in Dublin,
Ireland, acquired the Iowa divisions of Hallett Materials from
the Rasmussen
Group as well as
Des Moines Asphalt and Paving Company. In early 2002, Nuckolls Concrete Services,
including American Concrete Products, became part of the Oldcastle family. Together
these companies form the Iowa Group of Oldcastle Materials.
Oldcastle Materials, headquartered in Washington, D.C., owns approximately 40
companies in 26 states that employ over 13,000 people. In the United States,
Oldcastle Materials is the fourth largest aggregate producer, the largest asphalt
producer,
and is also one of the top ten ready-mix concrete producers. |
